According to Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, Disney has yet to film the actor video segments for the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction coming to EPCOT.
While Disney has not announced that the attraction will miss the previously announced timeline that would have the attraction open “in time for” Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary on October 1, 2021, all signs are pointing to a 2022 or later opening for the attraction.
In response to a tweet inquiring about Gunn’s remaining 2021 film schedule, Gunn confirmed that filming of the video segments of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind are “on the agenda” – confirming that it hasn’t been filmed just yet. It’s likely that the Cosmic Rewind segments will be filmed alongside Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
While this isn’t surprising given modified filming schedules as Hollywood returns to the soundstages following a pause due to COVID-19, it’s another bit of evidence that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind has been delayed from Disney’s initial announcement date. Of course, you should treat any timeline as unofficial unless and until Disney announces a delay.
