According to a report from CNN, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis responded to the ongoing battle with his hand-selected Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board of Supervisors and Walt Disney World. DeSantis, who was on a book tour in Georgia, said that there’s more to come in the ongoing legal battle that Board members think could end up in the US Supreme Court.
There’s a lot of little back-and-forths going on now with the state taking control, but rest assured, you know, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
There’s more to come in that regard.
In a recent meeting, the Board of Supervisors appeared to be frustrated with an agreement struck by the former members of the Reedy Creek Improvement District board. In one particularly entertaining move, Disney World and the former Reedy Creek board signed into an agreement that Disney World would have widespread control over swaths of Reedy Creek property and development rights for a very long time to come. The “King Charles Clause” effectively renders the current Board of Supervisors useless. Disney World defended the savvy move, noting that previous agreements were made in public forums as required by state law:
All agreements signed between Disney and the District were appropriate, and were discussed and approved in open, noticed public forums in compliance with Florida’s Government in the Sunshine law.
According to a public notice, the Central Florida Oversight District will meet again on April 12th to discuss ongoing business matters.
