In an interview with IMDB, The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau shared an idea for a Disney Parks attraction based on the hit series. Favreau said that he would like to see an attraction where guests ride in the Razor Crest ship. While Favreau used all the buzzwords that we’re used to hearing such as “immersive”, he actually took it a step further and said he’d like to see the attraction peel the curtain back a bit on how the ride works.
Probably in the Razor Crest. I’d probably do something that’s very immersive. I’d probably do something with haptics worked in. I’d probably use assets that we use in The Volume. Even when you’re just sitting there, it feels like a ride.
It’d almost be like half behind the scenes and half ride. I know when I was younger, I loved when they pulled the curtain back on the effects in movies. It really made me probably wanna do what I’m doing now. So I think there should be an educational component, but not educational like a museum reading a plaque, educational like sit in here, feel this, and here’s how we did it.
Of course, an attraction like this might fit perfectly in the Hollywood Studios of the past where pulling the curtain back on the movies was part of the story, but that aspect has been abandoned and experiences are meant to be more immersive and fully believable.
That said, Disney does offer some behind-the-scenes sneak peeks of even attractions that exist within Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. In an episode of The Imagineering Story on Disney+, Disney provided a behind-the-scenes look at how the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction. While the spitballing of attractions is fun, there have been no announcements by Disney of new Star Wars attractions coming to the Disney Parks. Fans of The Mandalorian can now meet with the title character and Grogu at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
