City of Bay Lake Gets Two New City Council Members, Turnover Continues Following DeSantis Takeover of Reedy Creek Improvement District

Earlier this morning, the City of Bake Lake held a special meeting to appoint two new council members following the resignations of two longtime council members. Resignations are becoming a common thing to see within the borders of the former Reedy Creek Improvement District after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis took over the District, renaming it the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District and hand-selecting the Board of Supervisors from a list of loyalists.

The takeover from the Governor has led to some instability within the District. Resignations have come from both the District and city-level positions, and those leaving typically have decades of experience.

The two incoming council members are both current, longtime Disney employees, which is in line with the rules and regulations of the City. In short, a candidate for City Council must be an adult who has resided in the city for at least 6 months. The only land within the City limits that has residents is Disney-owned property that Disney rents to select employees.

The City of Bay Lake exhibit below depicts the City of Bay Lake boundary area located within Orange County, Florida. The City of Bay Lake encompasses 22.7 square miles and is named after a large lake located East of Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom theme park. The southernmost boundary of the City of Bay Lake follows the Orange County, Florida boundary with Osceola County, Florida.
