Good morning from Magic Kingdom where a cold(ish) front is moving through, producing some gray skies but nice temperatures. To start the day, we’re taking an updated look at the Main Street USA railroad station refurbishment, which has shifted to the Eastern half of the station. Here’s a closer look!
Main Street USA Railroad Station Refurbishment Shifts
As a reminder, here are a few photos of the construction wall layout when the refurbishment began back in mid-January. Basically, the central staircase was completely enveloped by construction walls.
While visiting today, we noticed that the construction walls have shifted to the Eastern side of the station, completely blocking access to half of the station platform that overlooks the Town Square area of Main Street USA.
If we had to guess, I’d say that the work is related to a resurfacing of the floor, with some of the areas currently under construction showing some cracking. That said, Disney has not made any announcement as to the nature of the work.
The Walt Disney World Railroad attraction remains open and unaffected by the work taking place.
Starting at the front of the station, we can get a good idea of where the work is taking place as the entire left side is blocked off to guests.
The center staircase has reopened where the flooring looks better, but not pristine. It’s tough to say for certain that it has been replaced, but it does look better than the flooring that we’ll see just beyond the construction walls toward the end of this article.
Before we make our way to the top of the station, note that the right staircase is also open to guests right now.
Here’s a look at the construction walls on the second-floor Main Street USA overlook platform, cutting the space right in half. The center staircase is open to guests.
Inside, there are scrims up to block a view of the work. The entire interior remains open to guests, even if views from half of the station are blocked.
Finally, here’s a look just past the construction walls on the center staircase at the flooring. It appears to contain more cracks than the flooring on the right side of the staircase.
