Many attractions are closed this afternoon across the Walt Disney World theme parks. Reportedly, a power surge of some sort has knocked a lot of attractions offline. As of publish time, the reports of a power surge being the result of the widespread attraction downtime is unconfirmed. We have reached out to Walt Disney World for more information and will provide an update should we receive a response. A large storm is currently present on the southern third of Walt Disney World property and moving southeast.

UPDATE: Many attractions ended up reopening, some an hour later or even hours later. As of the morning of August 30th, operations appear to be normal again.

Our original reporting continues below, unedited.

Power Surge Reportedly Causes Attraction Downtime

According to thrill-data.com, a number of attractions went down just before 5pm this evening. All four Walt Disney World theme parks were affected by whatever caused the downtime. A BlogMickey.com source suggested that a power surge on property was to blame. It’s unclear if the storm that moved through the area was to blame for the power surge or if it was unrelated.

As of publish time, dozens of attractions are down, including indoor attractions that would typically be operational during inclement weather. At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, only one attraction is operating right now – Kilimanjaro Safaris. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, all attractions were down at one point. Tower of Terror has since reopened, but is the only ride currently operational. At EPCOT, the only attraction operating is the Gran Fiesta Tour.

In total, more than 40 attractions are currently closed. It’s unknown when normal operations will resume.

Power Outages Extend to Resort Hotels

BlogMickey.com has also received tips that there are power outages at the Walt Disney World Resort hotels.

Walt Disney World has not responded to a request for more information about the power outages.
