Demolition Company Listed in New Tomorrowland Bridge Permit for Magic Kingdom

An interesting permit was just filed by Walt Disney World, listing one of the premier demolition companies for an address that resolves to the Tomorrowland bridge in Magic Kingdom. We’ll take a closer look at the permit, along with some speculation as to what it could be signaling.

Demolition Company Listed for Tomorrowland Bridge Permit

We’ll start with the facts. The Notice of Commencement permit in question was filed this morning by Disney’s Facility Asset Management (FAM) division. FAM is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of Disney’s assets, which include attractions, buildings, and infrastructure.

The permit lists the scope of work as “general construction”, but the interesting part is that the contractor listed is “D.H. Griffin Wrecking Company”. It might be notable that D.H. Griffen actually has a few different branches. For example, the Contracting branch of the company was selected as the main mechanical and electrical contractor for the Disney Skyliner at Walt Disney World. D.H. Griffin Contracting had multiple trades involved to install support systems, gondola stations, cable trays, cabling, gondolas, and make sure that all items were precise and perfect for the ultimate magical experience!

Beyond the Skyliner, D.H. Griffin Contracting has been selected as the contracting partner for multiple rides at multiple Disney World parks.

That said, the branch of the company listed in the permit is specifically listed as D.H. Griffin Wrecking Company. Now, I should be clear here that I don’t think that the demolition of the Tomorrowland bridge is on the table here, but I do think it’s possible that we see some heavy work taking place while the Cinderella Castle moat remains drained. Perhaps we’re not as close to the end of this project as I had previously thought.

D.H. Griffen has a long history with Disney, including being the main demolition crew for the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction at Magic Kingdom. More recently, they demolished the Spirit of Aloha dinner show to make room for the new Disney Vacation Club Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

As for what this could be, I could see Disney performing some maintenance either on the bridge itself or in the basin while the moat is drained. We’ll have to keep an eye on the bridge now when visiting Magic Kingdom going forward.
