In-the-know guests will be able to unlock a new secret mode on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run with the new Mandalorian update rolling out to Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios today. Since the interactive flight simulator attraction opened in 2019, there has been a secret “Chewie Mode“, where the in-flight dialogue was replaced by the roars of Chewbacca. Now, the storyline of the attraction is changing, which means that Chewie Mode will be replaced by “Grogu Mode”. We were able to preview the new Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction early, and we have everything you need to know about unlocking the new Grogu Mode in Smugglers Run.

How to Unlock Grogu Mode in Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

As it turns out, unlocking Grogu Mode will be much easier than Chewie Mode because only two people need to activate the mode instead of the entire cockpit. For Grogu Mode, the whole thing rests on the shoulders of the Gunner positions. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to unlock Grogu Mode in Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.

1. DO NOT activate your position right away like you would normally do.

Just like with Chewie Mode before it, you need to perform some pre-flight operations before you activate your Gunner position.

2. Take a seat and buckle in so the Cast Member can go through their pre-flight check

Cast Members tell us that buckling up before you start to try to unlock Grogu Mode does not impact your ability to unlock the secret mode, and buckling up right away helps them speed up the loading process.

3. Gunner Tasks to Unlock Grogu Mode

Ok, we’re told that Grogu Mode only works when both Gunner positions perform the proper pre-flight, pre-activation operations. Grogu Mode will not work with just one Gunner.

Before you activate your position, Gunners need to press and HOLD the lower-most white button, closest to them. Here’s a look at what button you need to push, depending on whether you’re sitting in the left gunner position or right gunner position.

4. Activate Your Position

WHILE STILL HOLDING the button shown above, activate your position by pressing the large, circular yellow/orange button on your panel. This is the standard activation button, but the key is to be pressing the correct secret button on the panel while activating.

What Is Grogu Mode?

“Grogu Mode”, or Grogu in Control, or Grogu Take The Wheel™️ (you’re still driving) is a mode where the majority of the dialogue on the attraction is replaced by coos and sounds from Grogu.

Note that Grogu is part of every Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run mission following the Mandalorian update, regardless of whether you activate Grogu Mode or not. Every mission, regardless of which destination guests choose, will include a lot of Grogu and the Mandalorian already. Grogu Mode is simply more Grogu.

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run at Disney’s Hollywood Studios officially launched its brand-new Mandalorian mission on May 22, 2026, timed to coincide with the theatrical debut of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu.

The new storyline has Hondo Ohnaka recruiting guests after getting wind of a deal going down on Tatooine between ex-Imperial officers and a band of pirates, with a generous bounty up for grabs. Guests team up with Din Djarin and Grogu to track down the bounties and explore the galaxy.

The biggest gameplay change: for the first time ever, the crew controls their own destination, leading to potential adventures on Bespin, the wreckage of the second Death Star around Endor, or the city-planet Coruscant. Every ride first takes guests from Batuu to Tatooine, then branches to one of the additional locations.

Engineers now have the ability to make outbound calls to Grogu aboard the Razor Crest and see what he’s up to during the mission. The left Engineer can call out to Grogu, while the right Engineer is the position that will select which destination the crew will fly to next.

On the tech side, the updated attraction is powered by Unreal Engine 5, built in partnership with Industrial Light and Magic, the same tools used on the Disney+ series. Walt Disney Imagineers worked directly with director Jon Favreau and Lucasfilm President Dave Filoni, who helped craft the story and invited Imagineers to capture footage on the film set.

The mission is now live at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort!
