Haunted Mansion’s Stretching Room Lighting Issue Has Been Fixed at Magic Kingdom

During our visit today, we rode Haunted Mansion to check on the hanging corpse in both stretching rooms. The lightning effect works properly again, and the corpse is clearly visible hanging from the rafters in each room.

A Lighting Issue, Not a Removal
As we reported when rumors first spread that the hanging corpse had disappeared, the figure didn’t appear to be taken out of the scene. Dim show lighting made the corpse hard to see in one room. Incorrectly angled show lighting made the hanging corpse nearly invisible in the other. Those poor lighting conditions fueled speculation Disney had quietly removed it.
This speculation followed years of public discussion about the scene. Imagineer Michele Hobbs said during a 2021 Disneyland refurbishment that Imagineering had considered removing the hanging corpse. Imagineering creative director Kim Irvine said in January 2025 the team was still weighing the idea for Disneyland’s version. Those conversations centered on Disneyland, not Magic Kingdom. That made the sudden visibility issue in Florida stand out even more.
With today’s visit, we can confirm the lighting issue is resolved. The corpse now appears exactly as it always has when the lightning effect flashes in the stretching room.
We’ve also had some readers say that they thought the scrim was dirty. As you can see in our photo below, where our camera focused on the scrim and not the hanging corpse, the scrim is still dirty. The sudden “reappearance” of the hanging corpse appears to be a lighting fix.
