Walt Disney Studios Park Expansion Halted at Disneyland Paris

As Disney continues to make adjustments around the world to their operations, work on the ambitious expansion at the Walt Disney Studios Park in Disneyland Paris has come to a halt.

According to an interview with Le Parisien, Laurent Burazer of CFTC Euro Disney said that “work scheduled on the expansion of Walt Disney Studios, the second park, has stopped. [It has] not resumed but is not cancelled.”

This move echoes what we saw the domestic Disney theme parks do in mid-March. It’s unclear if any of the expansion plans in Paris will be defunded like what has happened with some Walt Disney World projects.

The Walt Disney Studios Park expansion represents a 2 billion Euro investment by Disney into revitalizing what is widely regarded as the worst Disney theme park in the world. The multi-year development was scheduled to roll out in phases beginning in 2021, significantly expanding the Walt Disney Studios Park. It’s unclear what the current halt in construction does to the previously announced timelines. In addition to the three new areas, the creative vision includes a new lake, which will be the focal point for entertainment experiences and will also connect each of the new park areas.

Star Wars

The new Star Wars land will be based off of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge lands at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland, but will only feature one attraction. Disney didn’t say which attraction would be coming to Walt Disney Studios Park. There will also be a dining location, shops, and character interactions.

Star Wars land at Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris is scheduled to be completed by 2025.

Frozen

The Frozen land will also contain a single ride, as well as shops, a dining location, and character interactions. The centerpiece of the land will be the Arendelle mountain, which will top out around 131 feet tall.

Frozen is expected to be completed in 2024.

Marvel

The Walt Disney Studios Park will have their very own Avengers Campus.

Lake Shows

The lake in the center of the concept art will feature the latest tech for lighting, fountains, and sound. The plan is to utilize the lake for both daytime and nighttime entertainment. The new open-air space is designed to provide 360 degree entertainment for guests visiting Walt Disney Studios Park.
