Yesterday was a big day of announcements regarding what we can expect to see closed at Hollywood Studios as the park gets ready for Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land construction.
What’s already closed?
- Studio Backlot Tour closed on September 28, 2014
- The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow closed on November 6, 2014
- Construction walls popped up around the infamous Sorcerers Hat on January 6, 2015 and the original look at the Chinese Theater has been restored
- The Magic of Disney Animation was closed on July 12, 2015 and re-opened as the Star Wars Launch Bay on December 1st
- The 20th and final year of the Osborne Lights completed on January 6, 2016
- Phineas & Ferb and Cars meet and greets closed on January 4, 2016
What’s closing?
April 2, 2016 will mark the closure of:
- Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show
- “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” Movie Set Adventure
- Monsters Inc. meet and greet
- Studio Catering Co.
- Youze Guys Moychondise
- Streets of America
- The Prop Shop
- Watto’s Grotto
Writer’s StopWriters Stop is staying open for a bit longer
We’ll also be losing the iconic Earfell Tower to construction in the coming weeks.
The blue area below is what will be closing.
Why does this matter?
April 2nd really marks the start of the Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land buildout. The idea of Hollywood “Studios” is gone now and Disney is looking to the future.
The next few years of construction are going to mark a period of time where up to 20% of the park will be closed. Hollywood Studios could be a park to consider skipping if your time or money is limited.
Are these attractions, stores, and restaurants permanently closing?
I figured. Hate to see these all close. Some neat areas.
