Cinderella Castle Moat Drained for Royal Makeover Project at Magic Kingdom

The Cinderella Castle moat has been drained as part of the Royal Makeover of the castle this summer at Magic Kingdom.

As we wrote earlier this month, Disney will be bringing a new look to Cinderella Castle, complete with golden accents, royal blue turrets, and a new “Rose-Pink” paint scheme. Here’s a look at the concept art released by Disney for the project.

We visited Magic Kingdom this morning to take a look at the return of Splash Mountain and some other work taking place in Fantasyland for the project when we noticed that the water had been drained from the moat in front of Cinderella Castle.

The draining is necessary to pressure wash the moat and some of the theming on the waters edge before moving on to the castle. Judging by the concept art, it looks like the bricks will be darker when the project is complete, so it’s possible that we’ll see crews working from the ground up when the project kicks off soon. It’s worth noting that the Magic Kingdom Vice President has stated that Cinderella Castle will remain uncovered during the project. Let’s take a look around, starting with the Liberty Square side of the castle.

Moving over to the Tomorrowland side of the castle, we can see that the water is damned a bit closer to Cinderella Castle.

The Cinderella Castle Royal Makeover is expected to be complete by the end of this summer.
