It’s been a long time coming, but we can finally start to see some of the queue theming taking shape at EPCOT…literally. A gap in the construction tarp recently gave us a peek inside the former Universe of Energy show building. Before we get to the construction photos, let’s take a look at what the area will look like when finished.
As guests enter the queue, they will find themselves in a “Galaxarium”. This Galaxarium will be a planetarium-like exhibition that explores the similarities and mysteries of the formation of Earth’s galaxy and Xandar. You’ll be invited to learn more about Xandar’s treasures – until the moment when the Guardians of the Galaxy arrive, and adventures across the cosmos ensue.
Later in the queue, we’ll be briefed about our mission to go back to the big bang in an impressive room seen in the concept art below.
Ok, back to the construction. As you can see in the photos below, the Galaxarium is taking shape…literally! The scale might be lost in the photos below, but guests will enter on the first floor of the structure and work their way up a ramp that will take them to the second floor for continuing pre-shows. We can see what appears to be the ramp working around the circular theming from low on the right to higher on the left. The steel structure seen about 8′ off the ground on the left appears to be part of the winding queue ramp that guests will walk up.
Here’s a closer look at the theming and another look at the concept art to compare.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is scheduled to open in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in fall 2021.
