Disney Will Revoke Severance for Cast Members Who Find New Employment Before December

UPDATE (10/6 2pm): Disney has updated their wording for their internal policy to reflect that a Cast Member must resign to be disqualified for severance pay. This is a change in HR wording that was made after our story was published. Here is a comparison of the wording change made, emphasis added by BlogMickey.com:

Q: Do I still get severance if I find new employment and leave my current position prior to the separation date?
A: If you begin new employment prior to your separation date, this is considered a voluntary resignation, and no severance will be provided

This updated wording now says that a Cast Member must resign from their current position within the company to be disqualified from receiving severance pay. This is a significant wording change that no longer means that the act of taking another job is a disqualifying factor for severance, but that Cast Members must also resign from their current position to be disqualified.

Our original story continues below, for transparency.

New details about the Cast Member severance package have been shared with BlogMickey.com. According to sources, Disney will not be offering severance packages to Cast Members who find new employment before their separation date, which is December 4th, according to documents filed with the state.

Effectively, this means that Cast Members who are still out on furlough, of which there are many, will need to remain furloughed and unpaid until December 4th. While this is fairly common in the industry, it puts a lot of Cast Members in a really difficult position as it relates to their financial status at a time when many are struggling. Cast Members will need to decide whether they’d like to start a new job and miss out on weeks of severance pay, or if they should remain unemployed to be able to collect a severance check.

Many Cast Members have either found part-time jobs during their furlough, or have taken on gig work such as Lyft, Amazon deliveries, or Uber Eats in an effort to make ends meet.

According to wording distributed to Cast Members, finding employment before a separation date would be considered a voluntary resignation, leading to a removal of severance pay. As of publish time, it’s unclear how Disney will enforce this policy.

    1. Open the place up and they don’t need another job when a hillbilly that would be me can see and hear about all people wanting to go and get back to normal you are proving this is political

    2. Its funny that Disney’s Josh D’Amaro is on the news talking about how much he cares for these cast members and how it hurts to let go of them, but yet he and the other executives are screwing them as much as possible on the way out.
The executives have full pay and bonuses reinstated to the tunes of hundreds of millions of dollars (like iger who had 44 million) but God forbid they pay the salary of a parent or elderly or anyone who barely makes $400-500 on their check. God forbid they actually allow those people to recover from this disaster by doing what they promised, which is gibe the severance package.
At $275 a week on unemployment, very very few will survive for long. Disney knows that, and so they make them choose…choose the carrot we dangle in your face, but suffer the whole time to get it. Way to look out for your “valued cast members” as you call them.
Don’t even pretend anymore Disney. Atleast have the courage to just come out and say that they are just a number to you and that your greed and profit margin far outweigh their value as employees. Atleast then we can say you’re honest. And not the greedy, lying deceitful corporation we all know you to be.

    3. Amen, it’s always about the Rich… and Powerful…and never about the working men an women that actually built the business!!!

    4. It’s ridiculous, if it weren’t for all those loyal cast members over the years, Disney wouldn’t have the profits they have, these cast members are the back bone of this company. I think it’s awful.

    5. this is happening in every company
we do not need to hold disney to any different standard
in fact it happened at my hospital and I am an Emergency room doctor and my hospital fired half the staff due to “low numbers” and loss of profit

    6. I’m seven months late on my bills being paid mortgage and other bills you name it I live on donated expired food from churches and other organizations but I’m grateful. I’m still waiting on Disney to call me back I have given my life to you and I still believe in you guys. Me and my wife work there god give you strength to help us bless you guys.

      2 Disnyland cast members.
