Disneyland Unions Announce More Than 1,800 Layoffs for Attraction Cast, Character Performers, and Security

On the heels of an announcement from the largest Walt Disney World union about 8,800 of their part-time members getting laid off, Teamsters Local 495 has announced more than 1,400 of their members will be laid off (via OC Register).

Disney has recently notified Teamsters Local 495 – which represents attraction operators, meet and greet character performers, and more trades – that they will be laying off more than 1,400 members.

On top of the 1,400 layoffs, Disney Security will be losing nearly 500 Cast Members.

The tally of Disneyland layoffs sits at more than 8,400 Cast Members.

Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro said that the layoffs are due to the “prolonged impact of COVID-19 on our business, including limited capacity due to physical distancing requirements and the continued uncertainty regarding the duration of the pandemic – exacerbated in California by the State’s unwillingness to lift restrictions that would allow Disneyland to reopen”.
