With the announcement that Disney World will be reducing their physical distancing requirements, we anticipate that Disney will soon offer some sort of confirmation that there will be a bump in capacity this summer at the theme parks. If that announcement comes, and Disney is able to increase the capacity substantially (to more than 50%), we believe that the Disney Park Pass system will start to become little more than a formality when visiting the theme parks.
In order to discuss capacity, we’re going to first assume that you’ve read our earlier article where we go into a bit more detail on capacity versus attendance. If not, you can check it out below.
With that as a background, we believe that once Disney is able to get to the 50-70% capacity limit, the Disney Park Pass system will be little more than a formality when deciding which theme park you want to visit. Guests visiting Walt Disney World shouldn’t run into capacity concerns on anything but the busiest 7-14 days of the year, and booking a Disney Park Pass shouldn’t be the stressful procedure many have found it to be.
At 50%, the Walt Disney World theme parks should be able to handle “normal” crowd levels. With international travel still restricted, Walt Disney World should be able to comfortably operate at 50% without presenting an entry challenge to guests. That said, we expect the Disney Park Pass availability calendars to light up green shortly after a capacity increase announcement, whenever that may be. Here’s a look at the current Disney Park Pass availability calendar for Resort Guests and Annual Passholders, respectively.
As a reminder, the Disney Park Pass reservation system supports travel dates through January 14, 2023. Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro has previously said that the Disney Park Pass reservation system is “here to stay”, but it shouldn’t be quite the speedbump that it is now with an increase in capacity.

Do you think mask policy may be relaxed again soon? Maybe only have to wear them indoors?
With this bump in capacity they need to open more food venues to keep ride lines minimal. Otherwise they need to bring back fast pass or something like it.
Or just when you are in line for a ride.
