A new month and we’re still discussing the Disney Park Pass system despite penning what we had hoped at the time would be a final look at the Disney Park Pass availability back in May. The thinking back then was that capacity would continue to be increased to the point that the Disney Park Pass system would be little more than a formality.
We were mostly right in that the Disney Park Pass system, at this point, shows mostly green a couple of months after our thesis. It may have taken a little bit longer than we had hoped, but that really speaks to the fact that Disney is still moving at a gradual pace. Of course, ask anyone in the theme parks right now what their thoughts on capacity and crowds is and you’ll likely get a negative bit of feedback, but we’ll continue that thought in another article.
Getting back to the month ahead, and we see that August will likely be one of the easier months to secure a park pass this year. Of course, historically September tends to be one of the best times of the year to visit for low crowds, so we might see even more ease of access to the Disney World theme parks then, but we’ll have to wait 30 days or so to find out.
First, here’s a look at the August Disney Park Pass availability as of today, the first day of the month.
What we see above is a trend that we see continuing through the month – Resort and regular ticket guests securing Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios for the next 5-7 days, and Annual Passholders snagging weekend trips.
We anticipate weekday availability to continue to be easy to secure for Annual Passholders, whose numbers have to be dwindling with the lack of new sales allowed in most cases.
Thinking about the month ahead, there really is one big wrench that could be thrown into the plans – the return of Annual Pass sales. As of publish time, Disney has not announced when they will begin selling new Annual Passes to the masses. If they announce sales, we anticipate that guests will flock back to the parks and have a negative impact on Annual Passholder availability.
