Amendment Officially Filed to Nullify Reedy Creek Development Agreement With Disney World

Following yesterday’s press conference by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, legislative action has now officially begun to nullify the Development Agreement between the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (formerly named the Reedy Creek Improvement District) and Walt Disney World. The Development Agreement, which was agreed to by a previous group of Board Members, essentially gives Disney World power over the development of Reedy Creek land.

It’s important to note that DeSantis and the Republican-led legislature did not dissolve the Reedy Creek Improvement District, just renamed it. That means that prior contracts such as the Development Agreement, remain valid. That said, the DeSantis administration and hand-picked Board of Supervisors were caught off guard by the agreement that made the new Board toothless, despite the agreement being voted on and passed in public as required by state law.

Here’s a look at the amendment, which is narrowly focused on the very specific set of circumstances that unfolded with the Reedy Creek Improvement District takeover by DeSantis.

  1. Pretty much nullify the development agreement in multiple ways. New board member consideration, date of implementation, and Florida statues. Maybe more that I overlooked.

  2. The agreement of a corporation, with itself, to hold itself above the government will never hold up over the long haul. It’s a fine stall tactic and political game but this will be shot down and just garner Disney more ill will.

  3. Has DeSantis even think what will happen to Florida if they lose Disney World we won’t have the people coming down here for Vacation and then he will have to put up the taxes to cover the loss and a lot of people will move out of Florida because there won’t be anything for them to here
