Vehicle Smashes Into Digital Sign Along Walt Disney World’s World Drive

|

A digital sign along World Drive southbound has been damaged after a vehicle appears to have smashed into it this morning. The sign was installed and activated in May 2023, and it offers up-to-date information about traffic patterns and changes during special events such as runDisney races. It looks like a larger vehicle assumed that they had clearance, perhaps while carrying a load, when they clearly needed a few more feet. No vehicle was spotted in the area when we drove by, and officials say that there were no injuries reported.

Here’s a look at the damaged sign, which officials from Disney and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District are assessing this morning. This particular stretch of road is maintained by the Oversight District, and I believe that the signage is under their jurisdiction as well. Oversight District vehicles were on site this morning.

Other signage remains installed in the area, likely in case of a power failure for the digital sign, but a vehicle smashing into it is another good reason to have backup signage. The traditional signage doesn’t appear to be damaged and continues to offer wayfinding assistance to guests driving around property. The only inconvenience to guests at the moment is the single lane of traffic closed.
