Refurbishment Underway at Expedition Everest – Here’s What to Expect

|

Scrims are up, and refurbishment has begun at the popular Expedition Everest attraction in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The attraction is going to be doing a lot more heavy lifting soon when the nearby DINOSAUR attraction closes permanently in just a couple of weeks, and it looks like crews are making sure that the ride is in tip-top shape. Here’s what we know about the work, and what you can expect if you’re visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom soon.

Refurbishment Underway at Expedition Everest

Scrims have been installed at the load/unload station for the popular Expedition Everest attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. We’ll start with the most important information for guests visiting the park soon – the ride is not scheduled to close. While the work is a visual impact, it should not be an operational impact for Expedition Everest. We recently made it out to Disney’s Animal Kingdom to get a unique view of the start of interior construction on an Encanto-themed ride, which meant snapping some photos from the top of the Forbidden Mountain. Here’s a look at the refurbishment work.

Scrims run the length of the load/unload station, but no other work appears to be taking place at Expedition Everest at this time. In terms of the actual scope of work, Walt Disney World hasn’t made any announcements.

A permit filed back in mid-December isn’t particularly illuminating. The scope of work is listed as “general construction” and the contractor for the work is Disney’s own in-house contractor – Buena Vista Construction Company (BVCC). BVCC is typically tasked with smaller-scope work, and I believe that the work taking place right now on the other side of the scrims is a roof replacement or repair for the structure that hangs over the load/unload station.

The last time Expedition Everest closed for a refurbishment was back in 2022. Check out our video below for a ride through of the attraction after it returned from refurbishment!
