Disney has announced that it aims to remove all single-use plastic straws and plastic stirrers by mid-2019. This will affect all owned and operated locations worldwide.

In addition to the above goal, Disney has also stated that they want to remove more wasteful plastics in the coming years. Their goal is to transition to refillable in-room amenities in their hotels and on cruise ships, reducing plastic in guest rooms by 80 percent. They will also reduce the number of plastic shopping bags in their owned and operated parks and on their cruise line, offering guests the option to purchase reusable bags at a nominal price. Finally, they will eliminate polystyrene cups across their global owned and operated business.

“Eliminating plastic straws and other plastic items are meaningful steps in our long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship,” said Bob Chapek, Chairman, Disney Parks, Experiences, and Consumer Products. “These new global efforts complement our commitments to reduce emissions, waste, and water use, and advance our long-term sustainability goals.”
