A new permit filed with the state appears to be for the demolition of the Leave a Legacy monoliths and Epcot entrance overhaul project. The permit names Whiting Turner as the contractor. Whiting Turner has played a crucial role in Walt Disney World construction as of late, having been listed on projects such as Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the TRON roller coaster, the Star Wars Hotel, Toy Story Land, and more.
The permit calls for “Enabling Works at North Pathways. Includes sitework, demo, hardscape, landscaping“. The permit lists 1400 Avenue of the Stars #A as the description of the property and “Project G” as the overall identifier. In the past, 1400 Avenue of the Stars has been used to identify projects such as the Innoventions East Breezeway fire sprinkler replacement, Innoventions East FastPass+ sign installation, and general construction on Innoventions East.
While this may seem like a permit for Innoventions East, it is likely that this is, in fact, for the Epcot entrance project as the “North Pathways”. The key wording here is the “hardscape and landscaping” verbiage that we saw with the recent Animal Kingdom entrance overhaul permits as well.
There is no end date listed on the permit, which means that the permit will expire for the work listed in 1 year. This would line up with the timeline outlined in our earlier post.
This is likely the first of many permits we’ll see filed for the “Project G” reimagining of the Future World section of Epcot. As always, stick with BlogMickey.com for the latest on this and many more projects from around Walt Disney World Resort.
[…] Permits have been filed for “Project G” which is the codename for the front entrance and central spine redesign. It’s highly likely work will begin prior to June 2019 on this (it starting this month is a realistic possibility), in which case it doesn’t make sense to have a congestion-inducing topiary display in this flower bed.
