Disney has just released some new video showing the work going on behind-the-scenes to prepare the new HarmonioUS nighttime spectacular coming to Epcot this spring.
In the video, they show one of five of the massive barges arriving on Walt Disney World property. These are the same barges that we’ve taken a look at from a helicopter in previous updates.
Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Parks Live Entertainment teams recently passed a major milestone in the development of the show, with the delivery of several floating platforms that will provide a base for the technology used to create “Harmonious.” Each platform is 30′ wide by 70′ long.
“Harmonious” will bring to World Showcase Lagoon an innovative toolkit of massive floating set pieces that house a variety of show effects, including custom-built LED panels, choreographed moving fountains, colorful lights, lasers, pyrotechnics and more.
Steven Davison, Creative Executive of Parades & Spectaculars for Disney Parks Live Entertainment refers to the effects of HarmonioUS as “characters” that will come to life via the barges. The collective of the barges is referred to as the “compass”, with the center having a “great gravity screen” that is surrounded by four other barges that have giant LED screens as seen in the concept art below.
The show promises to be a beautifully crafted nighttime dreamscape of Disney music and images, reimagined by diverse cultural musicians and artists from around the world. It’s a transformative experience, where we can discover how Disney music has the power to inspire and unite us all. You can catch an early glimpse of concepts for the show now by visiting Walt Disney Imagineering Presents the Epcot Experience, located in the Odyssey Events Pavilion.
