Lawsuit Filed for Errant, Excessive Annual Passholder Charges

According to a report from the Orlando Sentinel, a lawsuit has been filed by two Annual Passholders seeking Class Action status for the errant, excessive Annual Pass charges made by Disney last week.

The lawsuit is seeking more than $30,000 and claiming that Disney had a breach of contract when it charged Passholders for multiple monthly payments all at once. Many Passholders took to social media to complain about the excessive charges, and some claimed that the excessive, unexpected charges from Disney put them in a financial hardship. Disney has started to reverse the charges already, and sent out the following email as an apology to Annual Passholders:

    Dear Valued Passholder,

We regret that some of our Passholders on the monthly payment program had authorization holds incorrectly applied to their accounts on July 3rd. We realize that this error caused confusion and frustration and we apologize to you for the inconvenience this caused. These holds have been reversed and you should begin to see this reflected in your bank or credit card account over the next couple of days.

    Sincerely,

    Disney Destinations

    1. My charges were reversed the same day; they acted lightening fast when they realized the error. I am not sure it is worth a “class action”.

    2. During the release of Minnie the Main Attraction Tiki Room in May, I tried to make a purchase 6 times, and each time I’d get an error message that the transaction had timed out and to try again. I was never able to purchase anything, yet the next day when I checked my account there were 6 charges for the 6 attempts I had made to purchase something and funds had been removed from my account. I called and was advised they were aware of this issue happening to a few people and that funds would be refunded ASAP. When I called 2 days later I was told it’s customary to remove funds when an order is placed but since the order didn’t go through the funds would be returned. I was never able to place an order!!! Over $600 removed from my account and it was not returned until one week later! My bank honored my mortgage payment but had to make a transfer from my savings which I’m charged for. They removed that fee once I told them what happened. It’s not acceptable to hold funds for orders that were never placed Disney!!!

    3. We still have not received the date extensions on our AP’s and have no access to tickets. Have been a Platinum Plus member for Three years and all I get when I call and wait for 2 hours on hold is told I’m in the wrong department. We love Disney but really disappointed in the way I’ve been treated.

    4. My charges have not been reversed. A large amount of money has been taken hostage by Disney. Today is day 6. This is a terrible time to make that kind of mistake. I have some in savings which has helped me but to others it may be food taken off the table. They should be ashamed and the pass holders should be given something to say “I’m sorry.”

    5. Does anyone else notice how all the letter we get from Disney does not contain a date? It is standard to put a date on correspondence but not on the Disney letters why is that I doubt it limits liability.

    6. I am experiencing the same thing. I was transferred 7 times and one phone for over 2 hours more than once. They are playing games.
