Disney World Asks Guests Unable to Wear a Mask Over Mouth and Nose to Reschedule Visit for a Later Time

New wording on the Walt Disney World website mirrors new signage and new park-wide audio messaging in taking a firmer stance against improper face mask usage. Here’s a look at the updated wording, asking guests to reschedule their visit if they are not able to wear a face mask over their mouth and nose (h/t: Brooke Geiger McDonald)

As a reminder, Walt Disney World requires the use of a proper face mask by all guests 2 years old and over. What is a proper face mask? Here are the requirements:

All face coverings (whether disposable or reusable) must:

    • Be made with at least 2 layers of breathable material
    • Fully cover the nose and mouth and secure under the chin
    • Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
    • Be secured with ties or ear loops and allow the Guest to remain hands-free

At this time, based on guidance from health authorities, neck gaiters, open-chin triangle bandanas and face coverings containing valves, mesh material or holes of any kind are not acceptable face coverings.

While we have found proper face mask usage at Disney World to be much higher than in typical activities within the community, Disney has held itself to a higher standard throughout the pandemic, even changing park rules as needed to fit the latest guidance from health officials. It’s good to see that they have stronger language against improper face mask usage, but we hope that they are able to further empower Cast Members to actually enforce the rules.

    1. I am glad Disney is being serious about the health and safety of its guests and employees. We were there last week but would not have visited if COVID protocols were not in place.

    2. Ive had it with these masks. In glad i live in a community that doesnt require them. Just because my family suffers from respiratory problems and literally cant wear masks for more than a few minutes at a time doesnt mean we should be treated like second class citizens.

    3. Mike you really shouldn’t even be stepping outside your house, let alone going to a theme park, if a virus with over 99% survival rate terrifies you. Your chances of dying after you start your car and drive off are massively higher then being at WDW where people aren’t wearing masks. But then again who needs numbers and science when you have CNN.

    4. Lol. It’s very hard to get my 3 yr old granddaughter to keep a mask on. They don’t understand at that age and it’s ridiculous. Even though masks do nothing, I wear mine.. but I push back against the few CM’s that get nasty about my granddaughter wearing a mask. Just another reason why Universal Studios is having more success right now than Disney.

    5. Nick and Nate are so lucky. Imagine how stuff and cushy your life has to be that your biggest gripe is a piece of cloth over your face. In Montana we just call that winter and we don’t whine about it.

    6. As someone who visited last week, they ARE using cast members to enforce it. The constant announcements, never ending signage, and cast members scolding, will keep me from going back anytime in the future. There are also many inconsistencies on how they are doing things. You can touch all the merchandise you want, but no ping pong tables at the resorts. The cast members have no problem standing face-to-face when talking, then turning around and telling you to keep six feet from the people in front of you.

Disney has to find moderation in their approach or will continue to see people not wanting to come back. The magic is gone.

    7. Wow. Your family has respiratory problems and you still refuse to wear a mask?!? I guess you can’t fix stupid…
