While checking out the closure of the monorail station at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, we decided to check up on the crossbeam removal project. As you might be aware, Disney was in the process of removing the decorative crossbeams from the top of The Great Ceremonial House as part of an overall refurbishment happening at the resort right now. While we know about a few aspects of the project such as the Moana-themed rooms, Disney has only released concept art for the new look for the monorail platform and arrival experience.

Now, Disney has removed all of the decorative crossbeams from the top of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Disney has stated that the crossbeams will return, but in fewer numbers when compared to the concept art above with the old photo below.

Here’s a look at the roofline today, with all crossbeams removed and what appears to be some communications work taking place.

Here’s a look from the front of the resort.

To accommodate the work, the skylights above the lobby have been blacked out, making the entire lobby feel a bit confined and dark.
