Crossbeam Removal Continues With Trimming of End Section at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

Disney has continued the removal of the crossbeams at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, with the latest work focused on trimming the end section that we saw crossbeams removed from a few days ago.

As a reminder, not all of the crossbeams are expected to be removed, but there will be fewer crossbeams when the dust settles in an effort to create a cleaner look. Here’s a look at the concept art. Interestingly, the concept art shows a rather lopsided crossbeam section that isn’t exactly centered with the new structure. Perhaps the recent removal of the end piece will accomplish that lopsided look.

Here’s a look back at the end section that was removed. Our updated photos will follow.

    1. Sometimes I do wish they would leave well alone. Ruined the Polly with the bungalows, and most probably will not remember the rockwork with the waterfall and foliage that used to be the centerpiece of the lobby in great ceremonial house, took up the whole lobby, parrots and all. Now its dead space.
I always loved the tiki vibe, even if not “authentic” I hate to see these kinds of changes to an original icon.
I will reserve judgement on the latest changes until I see them in person. Being an AP an living only two hours away I often would head over for an afternoon of soaking up the Polys vibe, MK fireworks and a laupu laupu from poly and on to Epcot for more fireworks, followed by a late Epcot dinner reservation. Hotel for the night, home in the morning, I have done the same for 25 years.

I know I have vintage poly pictures somewhere, you the kind that took you putting film in a camera. But if anyone has any they can share that would be awesome.

Reminds me of more lost Disney, there was a time when you could drop of your camera film on your way out of the parks, and it would be delivered to your room before you had breakfast the following day. I miss that.

    2. I really don’t see the point of this. It seems like changing something for changes sake. It looked fine as it was and I don’t expect any guests ever thought, ‘That would look much cleaner if it were shorter and sparser!’…
