In an upcoming book titled “The Art of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge”, artwork for the Star Wars-themed land pulls back the curtain a bit on some of the scrapped plans that Disney had for the land.
Kalikori Club
The main table service restaurant, while not a secret to fans, finally gets a name in the book – Kalikori Club.
As readers of the site will know, a table service restaurant was planned for the land, but later scrapped for unknown reasons. The Kalikori Club was set to operate out of a two-level bathhouse. The restaurant was designed as sort of a hidden speak-easy style location that was meant to operate as a restaurant where there might have been some underground world dealings.
There is a space behind the present-day Oga’s Cantina that might have been earmarked for the table service restaurant.
Spice Den
Also scrapped what the Spice Den lounge. This space would have featured a two-story aquarium where a large monster would be revealed to be living in it.
Bounty Hunter Ride
An early concept included a bounty hunter chase ride. This ride would have put guests on a speeder bike as they were chased by authorities. Not much more is revealed about the ride beyond the fact that it was an early concept.
Bantha Ride
Another ride/experience discussed was the Bantha ride that was shown off at a D23 Expo.
The Bantha, which we learn was named Elee, was set to lumber through Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and interact with guests while allowing some guests to hitch a ride. You can see the Bantha in some more early concept art below.
Lead Imagineer on the project Scott Trowbridge said that Disney had figured out how to bring Elee to life technically, but that the concept was scrapped due to capacity concerns.
“The Art of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge” is available for pre-order now, and will release on April 27th.
