Genie FAQ: Do You Have to Purchase Disney Genie+ to Buy Individual Lightning Lane Attractions?

As we continue to use the Disney Genie suite of offerings, we’re collecting your frequently asked questions about Disney Genie, Disney Genie+, and Individual Lightning Lane attraction selections. In this article, we’re going to answer a surprisingly often asked question: do you have to purchase Disney Genie+ to buy Individual Lightning Lane attractions?

In short, the answer is: No, you do not need to purchase Disney Genie+ to buy Individual Lightning Lane attractions. Basically what we have here are two different skip-the-line products – Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane.

Disney Genie+

With Disney Genie+ ($15 flat-rate), you get access to over 40 Lightning Lane-enabled attractions. Classics like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean are included in the list of Genie+ attractions. That said, some of Disney’s most popular attractions are not included in the Genie+ offering and come at a separate price. For more on how to purchase Disney Genie+, check out our guide below.

Individual Lightning Lane

The second product is Individual Lightning Lane attraction selections. Disney has withheld some of their most popular rides such as Flight of Passage and Rise of the Resistance as pay-per-ride Individual Lightning Lane attractions. You do not have to pay for Disney Genie+ to “unlock” access to these Individual Lightning Lane attractions – they are a la carte purchases that can be made at any point throughout the day (subject to limited availability). For example, if you wanted to skip the purchase of Disney Genie+ for your day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom because of low wait times, you can still purchase an Individual Lightning Lane attraction selection at Flight of Passage should you not want to wait for that ride.
