As Tropical Depression Nine strengthens in the Caribbean, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has issued an executive order urging Floridians to prepare for a possible impact as well as declaring a state of emergency for 24 counties.
“Today, I signed an Executive Order issuing a State of Emergency due to the threat of Tropical Depression 9,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “This storm has the potential to strengthen into a major hurricane and we encourage all Floridians to make their preparations. We are coordinating with all state and local government partners to track potential impacts of this storm.”
One of the 24 counties is Osceola County, which is the county that covers the southern portion of Walt Disney World property. Orange County, which includes the majority of Walt Disney World property, was not included in the state of emergency.
Tropical Depression Nine is expected to strengthen into a Category 3 major hurricane before it makes landfall in the United States sometime next week. In addition to the news about the state of emergency, we also wanted to include the latest cone of uncertainty image from the 5pm update. The forecast still calls for landfall sometime on Wednesday of next week and the vast majority of Florida remains in the forecasted path.
