While visiting Magic Kingdom recently, we decided to switch things up a bit and grab some photos of the front of the Island Tower hotel coming to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Taking photos of the front of the resort is a bit tougher due to unfavorable lighting conditions and shooting from a moving monorail, but some recently added designs caught our eye. Here’s a look at the work during the late-afternoon glow of the setting sun!
Polynesian Tattoo-Inspired Designs at the Island Tower
The mural that we first spotted over a month ago is now complete, featuring a turtle on the south wing of the resort. As we pass by the Island Tower, we’ll be able to take a look at some of the recent work, but we’ll start with a closer look at the mural.
As we start to pass by the front of the resort hotel, we can see the start of more murals at the top of the tower. Disney says that the new Island Tower “[celebrates] past and present Polynesian visual culture, including the use of natural materials, intricately designed patterns inspired by Polynesian tattoos, and a color scheme that is modern and complementary to the adjacent Longhouses.”
Other points of interest for the project include the development of the porte cochere, as well as landscaping and the waterside walkway that will connect Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Magic Kingdom beyond that. Work is also underway on adding some stone work to the walls near the lobby entrance.
