Bibbidi Bobbidi Blue! Cinderella Castle Rooftop Repainting Nearly Complete

Earlier this morning, we visited Magic Kingdom to get an updated look at the ongoing Cinderella Castle repainting project. It seems like the project is winding down, with crews focused on some detailed painting on select Cinderella Castle rooftops, while most of the effort was focused on the forecourt turret rooftops when we visited. We snapped a few photos throughout the morning. Thanks to an 8am opening, we were able to start with the dawn glow before the sun actually hit Cinderella Castle. Here’s an updated look at the latest work!

Cinderella Castle Roof Repainting Nearly Complete

The “news” part of this article is that the Cinderella Castle rooftops are now nearly all repainted a dark blue. Crews are working on some detailed painting on the Castle itself, but have mostly been focused on the forecourt turrets on either side of the Castle. That said, the uppermost section of the Castle body retains the pink of the past, so it’s possible that the repainting hasn’t fully reached the tip of Cinderella Castle yet. It seems like Disney is purposefully waiting to save the Tinker Bell launch site part of Cinderella Castle for the final application of paint. It would be fun if Disney staged a photo op with a character or two up there one day to mark the completion of the work.

Turning to photos, we’ll start with a look at Cinderella Castle during the early morning dawn glow. The Castle appears darker when not under direct sunlight. What is nearly a bright white under direct sunlight turns to grey depending on how overcast the skies are. During the morning dawn glow, Cinderella Castle picks up some of the sunrise colors and soaks them up a bit.

Eventually, the sun rose high enough to hit the Castle at the end of Main Street USA. Shortly thereafter, we were heading to Tomorrowland to check on the Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin soft opening. Here are some photos at sunrise before we return a bit later in the morning to find crews actively painting as more direct sunlight hits Cinderella Castle.

As the sun began to rise, the Castle continued to change colors, this time to more of a white. We’ll start with a couple of photos from Fantasyland, before walking to the Liberty Square side of the Castle and then around to the front. Crews got started around 9am, and these early photos captured their work to start the day.

As previously announced, cranes are present during the morning hours before being retracted by noon each day. That allows crews to get some work done before ensuring guests are able to snap some clean photos of Cinderella Castle during the afternoons and into the evenings.

While I haven’t documented the repainting project every single time I’ve gone to Magic Kingdom since it started, I have enjoyed watching crews work to transform Cinderella Castle. Part of what I love about documenting Walt Disney World is connecting you to the theme parks and experiences that we both love, but another part of what I love is watching actual humans build or create something.

In the case of the Cinderella Castle project, painters who normally would perform work during overnight hours when guests aren’t around are put front and center at the busiest theme park in the world. It’s cool to stop and appreciate the fact that this entire repainting project of one of the most recognizable landmarks in the United States is being done by humans and by hand.

Continuing on with our photos, here’s a look at the work and Cinderella Castle just before 10am as we were heading out to our next spot.

And here’s a look at Cinderella Castle from Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

As always, keep checking back with us here at BlogMickey.com as we continue to bring you the latest news, photos, and info from around the Disney Parks!

    • I hope it’ll be filled by the end of the month, if not sooner. That said, I’m not 100% sure where they are in the progress of the project right now

    • Im going to guess sometime next month before summer break obviously, they still have to paint the bricks.
