Is Disney trying to kill the standby queue?

If you plan on trying to meet Anna and Elsa in the Magic Kingdom this week you will be met with a “new” procedure that should allow for a maximum wait of 30 minutes. At rope drop there will still be the normal rush of people heading to Princess Fairytale Hall, but once the line fills up, the rest of the guests will be directed to “Magic Kingdom Park Support” located on the other side of the Regal Carrousel to pick up a “return time” ticket that will have a 30 minute window for you to enter the line later in the day.

One thing to remember is that while this may be new for the Magic Kingdom, it isn’t new at Walt Disney World. Currently, in Hollywood Studios, both the Legend of Jack Sparrow and the Frozen Sing-Along use this technique to keep lines short.
With rumors circulating that Disney will be testing this method at Soarin as well as other high profile attractions (think Toy Story Midway Mania and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train) it seems like the standby queue as we know it may be a thing of the past.
It is important to remember that this is still considered as “under testing” as Disney collects info on how it will impact lines and guest experiences.
So what do you think? Would you like to see this implemented on some of the longer lines in Walt Disney World?
