Splash Mountain Evacuated at Magic Kingdom

Just a few minutes after we wrote about the indefinite closure of Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom, a follower on Twitter sent in the following photo of Splash Mountain being evacuated. Our thanks to @MichaelMase for the tip and photo!

Splash Mountain recently returned from an extensive annual refurbishment. No word on what the issues are today or how long-lasting they might be, but the photo above shows guests being evacuated from the lift hill.

    1. Spending so much on tickets to get in for the family and getting down there with all this happening doesn’t seem like “the happiest place on earth”. Seems like the pricing should go down or something with all this happening so close together.

    2. I’ll say it a million time if I’ve said it once it’s all bout the money.I don’t comment on much stuff but this has to stop!
I know families that have saved for years and years to visit the so called happiest place on earth and now they can’t go and have fun and make because your to worried about Ferrari Your going to buy next.
Shame on you Disney drop you prices Andy let normal families experience once in a lifetime event.
      That’s all

    3. I deffinetly agreed Disney needs a lift all around! A normal hot dog was $8 there… the 3oclock parade cariages were outdated… flowers and coutumes… the rides small world, and all others on that land are outdated and slow! The jungle boat needs excitement and not exactly a sinking boat kind of excitement… the need to see Mickey and the gang stamped everywhere its lacking!! Bathrooms, floors, flowers, murals etc… I love forever Mickey and missed him when went to all 4 parks this past November…and Magic Kingdom was booring… the race track needs improvement, I mean. Everywhere needs the magic….. stores with Mi key, all over park… ice cream, balloons, music throughout the park??? Out of the rocks speakers??? Misters… heat sounds of nature…beautiful flower baskets on mainnstreet??? Where all went??? Please bring all that magic back!! Soecially music on rides wait lines etc…

    4. I am with you on this one Ashley. I was tryin to plan a trip down there but to many problems going on there and yet prices are way to high for an average family to go there…?

    5. Yeah no kidding seems like the place is falling apart on us we r just days away from taking our florida well saved 4 vacation with 3 younger children 3 5 and 9 b4 we kno it the CORONAVIRUS thats in tampa will be at the park ugh. lower ur prices disney thanks

    6. I so agree with ashley i just spent 8 thousand for a week in diseny they definitely should lower there price not only because of there rides malfunctioning but also the corona virus going around and and outbreak just 50 miles away in tampa. Im risking my family health going to this vacation i shouldnt spend all this money with all the negative things happening in and around Diseny World

    7. Yesterday I actually got evacuated on one of Splash Mountains closures and everyone who was stuck got a comp fastpass for almost any ride- and the same thing happened when HM was still down during my fastpass time. They really are doing the best they can to make it up to guests.

    8. it gets evacuated so much lol this is not anything new. I have never been able to go on splash mountain all the way through, without either a breakdown that can be fixed quick, or evacuated. i was evacuated back in november. going back to the park monday, and have a fast pass for splash at 925 am. fingers crossed it doesnt go down again.

    9. Dude to the person writing this. You shouldnt be getting paid to post trash do your damn research. Haunted mansion is only closed for routine maintenance. Boo should be fired.

    10. You mean the Doom buggies not turning the proper way?
Planned maintenance is always announced by Disney, and does not happen in the middle of the day.
Someone does need to get their facts straight, its just not the author of the article

    11. We saved up for 10 years & had to sell our very old (2000) spare van to afford our 2020 Disney world trip. We stayed at All-Star Movies Resort. We had to make sandwiches and bring our own snacks & water bottles too, because the food & drink offered in WDW was just too expensive for us. Parking fees are high too. I very rarely leave comments online. I Like this website because they give you the news about DISNEY in a short clear article without too many photos! I just found your site and I will be back! Keep up the good work! I’m so jealous that you get to go to Disney World almost every day! But I am happy for you! Enjoy!

    12. Splash getting evacuated isn’t really anything new. And a lot of the “stops” aren’t actually the ride breaking down. I think there is a misconception that every time you stop unexpectedly it is the ride “breaking.” Just because you get stopped and hear the automatic announcement about it stopping, or hear a cast member saying it has temporarily stopped, that doesn’t mean it is broken. For example, anytime people take too long to get in or out of the ride the boats “cascade” and get backed up, and the entire ride will stop until things at the load/unload platform start moving again. It’s programmed that way for safety reasons. If too many boats are waiting to unload/load it can get too far backed up. Can you imagine what would happen if it was backed up all the way to the bottom of the big drop? No good. That would be a very bad day for everyone.

Yes, an evacuation is more than just getting stopped because it backed up but they also happen fairly regularly and are nothing to worry about. Sometimes Splash gets a little finicky and is taking too long to start up again and instead of having people sit there forever waiting they will evacuate. When I was a cast member at Splash back in 2006 I did several evacuations and never was it because of anything major or something anyone should worry about. Now when I get back to Disney on vacation I look forward to riding Splash even though I am aware it could stop at any moment for a huge variety of reasons. I would also LOVE if I was able to be evacuated because you get a view of the ride, and sometimes backstage, that you don’t get otherwise and I haven’t seen those views in years.
