With the announcement of 2022 Walt Disney World tickets and packages now on sale, Disney World has also extended the Disney Park Pass theme park reservation system through January 14, 2023.
At this time, guests visiting the Disney World theme parks through January 14, 2023 will be required to make a free Disney Park Pass theme park reservation to be able to enter the Walt Disney World theme parks. This reservation allows Disney to set capacity limits required by COVID-19 safety protocols.
Of course, you might be asking yourself: won’t COVID-19 be a thing of the past in 2023? Yes, it’s very possible likely that COVID-19 won’t be nearly as much of a threat as it is today, but that doesn’t mean that the Disney Park Pass reservation system will necessarily go away.
Back in August 2020, we reported that Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro said that the Disney Park Pass reservation system (among other new technology introduced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic) is “here to stay”:
The technology doesn’t only help us during a time of a pandemic, but I also think it actually leads to a better cast and guest experience. So these are things that are helping us now, but I think they’re here to stay.
Building on that comment and the fact that the Disney Park Pass reservation system calendar now extends into early 2023, it’s possible that D’Amaro was right and that guests will be required to make a theme park reservation after COVID-19 is in the past.
