Universal Creates Permanent Fireworks Launch Site for Epic Universe

Over the last year or so, Universal has been constructing a permanent fireworks launch site for its Epic Universe theme park. While Epic Universe doesn’t currently have a nightly fireworks show, this recent construction is a major step toward presenting one if Universal chooses to. Here’s a look at the work and what could be in store for Epic Universe.

Permanent Fireworks Launch Site in Epic Universe

Epic Universe Grand Opening utilized fireworks, drones, and more

Universal Epic Universe opened to the public on May 22, 2025 after years of construction and excitement. The theme park is a major step forward for Universal Orlando Resort as it positions itself as a weeklong vacation destination. Epic Universe is a wonderful theme park, but it isn’t without growing pains as crews work through ride reliability issues. With the 1-year anniversary quickly approaching, it’s fun to think about what’s next for the theme park as it continues to grow. We have a few ideas, but we’ll only talk about fireworks in this article. More to come.

While we’ve been very interested in expansions such as new attractions, there is plenty of other work taking place to create a more mature and full theme park experience. When thinking of theme park experiences, an emotional, nostalgic nightly fireworks show is something that can stick with you for decades. It’s just one of the entertainment elements that are currently missing from Epic Universe, but recent construction aims to change that.

Friend of the site Bioreconstruct has been tracking the development of a permanent fireworks launch site at Epic Universe, and it looks like work is now complete on the infrastructure package for the launch site.

So, where is this permanent launch site? Dead center, right “behind” the Helios Grand hotel in the northwest corner of the theme park complex. More specifically, the fireworks launch site has been built in the middle of a pond that is located at the main entrance to the Helios Grand hotel.

In the first aerial photo from Bioreconstruct below, we can see the pond in question at the extreme top left of the image, right “behind” the Helios Grand Hotel. A second photo below shows the fireworks launch site peninsula on the left side of the photo.

Here’s a look at the development of the fireworks launch site, with photo capture dates listed in the caption below each photo. As you can see, the development has been a relatively slow process, but it appears to be complete now – at least, as far as the infrastructure is concerned. As of today, a control bunker and electrical panels appear to be complete. From here, Universal would be able to add in the launchers and hook into the existing infrastructure to present a nightly fireworks show, should they choose to.

In terms of presenting a nightly fireworks show, Universal Orlando Resort hasn’t announced anything. While a nightly fireworks show would certainly enhance the guest experience at Epic Universe, it’s just as likely that Universal created this fireworks launch site to make seasonal displays a bit easier.

That said, nightly fireworks, or a fireworks and fountains show, would be one of the many levers still at Universal’s disposal to increase interest without adding new rides. In fact, we have a few thoughts as to what Universal could do to get guests to add Epic Universe to their 2026 or 2027 vacation while we await new rides. We’ll have more to share in the future on that front.

In the meantime, it’s exciting to see work completed on this permanent fireworks launch site as we continue to watch Universal Epic Universe mature and evolve less than one year after opening to the public.
