Aerial Photos of Monsters Inc. Roller Coaster Installation & EPCOT Staging Area

Thanks to new aerial photos from friend of the site Bioreconstruct, we have a new vantage point for construction activities for the upcoming Monsters Inc. Door Vault roller coaster. As a bit of quick background, we spotted roller coaster support columns behind EPCOT nearly a week ago. Since then, we spotted the first support columns installed at the Monstropolis construction site just two days ago. Now, we have aerial photos of both of those locations, offering a new vantage point for the work.

Aerial Photos of Monsters Inc. Roller Coaster Installation

Briefly, here’s a look at concept art for the upcoming Monsters Inc. Door Vault roller coaster. The two pieces of concept art below show the interior of the ride and the location of the large attraction building at the back of Monstropolis. The roller coaster is being built in a section of the Cast Member parking lot behind the former Muppets Courtyard area of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

MONSTERS INC. DOOR VAULT ROLLER COASTER MATERIALS STAGING SITE

We’ll start with some aerial photos of the materials staging area, just south of EPCOT. We got our first look at the roller coaster support columns via the Disney Skyliner, which passes right next to the site. However, these aerial photos offer a better look at the various materials that are staged roughly a mile northeast of the Monsters Inc. construction site.

MONSTERS INC. DOOR VAULT ROLLER COASTER CONSTRUCTION

Next up, we find some photos of the actual Monsters Inc. Door Vault roller coaster construction site. Here, we’re treated to an aerial view of the support column installation that we documented from the ground a couple of days ago.

There are five support columns installed on the west side of the massive building pad. The building will be one of the largest attraction buildings at Walt Disney World. It’ll actually have more square footage than the nearby Rise of the Resistance attraction.

In this next photo, we can see that the building is in various stages of construction. On the left, we have the finished concrete slab and roller coaster support columns installed. To the right, we have various stages of work on the subsurface installation of conduit. Toward the upper part of the image, we can see early work with dirt and some infrastructure work.

I don’t necessarily have any deep insight as to what we’re looking at here beyond the visually obvious, but this does appear to be a rather unique foundation. We can see that crews are threading conduit through a web of rebar. Sprinkled throughout are footers for the roller coaster support columns to be installed on. Beyond that, there are interesting pits also in play. Here’s a closer look.
