After years of covering the construction of Disney’s newest land, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the latest episode of The Imagineering Story on Disney+ has been quite the gift of behind-the-scenes visuals and explanations of what we saw from 800 feet in the air.

Here at BlogMickey.com, we’ve enjoyed being able to offer you a look at the latest construction projects from around the Disney Parks, but there’s only so much that we can offer without having some backstage access. When we took to the skies above Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in the years of construction, we were able to piece together some of the mechanics of how the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction worked. Of course, Disney has the distinct advantage of being the creators of the wonderful theme parks and attractions that we love, so getting a glimpse at the behind-the-scenes construction of Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run within Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in the latest episode of The Imagineering Story has been quite the treat.

Earlier today, we took a look at how the finale effect is accomplished in the new Rise of the Resistance attraction. Now, we’re back with another behind-the-scenes look at how the Smugglers Run attraction operates. Before we jump into the visuals offered by Disney, here’s what we saw from the skies above the construction site in the years it took Disney to build the new land.

As it turns out, we were right to speculate that what we saw taking shape here were the turntables that would eventually provide around 1800 guests per hour of capacity.

In addition, we spotted what we speculated at the time would be the “projection cones” that would provide our look into space.

Finally, let’s take a look at the behind-the-scenes look at the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction provided by Disney, showing the Falcon cockpit pod installed inside of one of the projection cones seen above and stationed on one of four giant turntables.
