Disneyland has begun sending out emails to guests with reservations booked through October 24th, asking them to cancel or modify their reservation.
The cancellations come at a time when the tension between Disneyland and the state of California has reached an all-time high. After weeks of teasing a Disneyland reopening announcement, Governor Gavin Newsom recently said that he doesn’t think Disneyland will reopen anytime soon, saying that the state will be “stubborn” in their commitment to a “safety-first” framework of reopening guidelines that could see the theme parks closed for weeks, if not months.
The suggestion by the Governor that reopening Disneyland would be inconsistent with a “safety-first” approach did not sit well with Disney and led the Disney Parks Chief Medical Officer to pen a late-night response to the governor, rejecting his claims.
This response from the top medical professional at the Disney theme parks is just the latest in a verbal condemnation of the governor. Even Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro took a shot at the state, blaming them in part for the 28,000 layoffs within the parks division at the company.
