Disney has officially removed the Main Street USA Theater project from all related permits. As we first reported, Disney had filed a joint permit titled “Magic Kingdom East Side Modification” back in November 2017 that included both the Tron roller coaster and the Main Street USA Theater project. A recent update to the East Side Modification permit removes the Main Street USA Theater from the permit boundaries.
First, a look at the original boundaries of the project, which include the Main Street USA Theater site (MK1).
An updated permit removes the Main Street USA Theater site.
Here’s an edited version of the permit, highlighting the project boundaries (green) and the former Main Street USA Theater site (blue).
A memo attached to the permit references “the modification of the permit limits and the relocation of an existing canal through the MK-2 site” as a reason for the updated submission of the permit package to the state.
As if there was any doubt that the Main Street USA Theater project was cancelled, this permit modification in combination with the removal of construction equipment from the site and the removal of the project from Disney’s official website should confirm the cancellation. The Walt Disney Company has yet to comment on the cancellation of the project after announcing it at the D23 Expo almost a year ago.
