A newly filed document with the state of Florida gives an exact count for the number of Walt Disney World unionized Cast Members to be laid off – 11,350.

This comes after an earlier announcement from Disney World that about 6,700 non-union Cast Members would be laid off. In total, Disney World has absorbed over 18,000 of the 28,000 announced layoffs in the domestic Disney Parks division. That would leave roughly 10,000 Cast Members left for Disneyland to account for. Disneyland, as you might imagine, is a much smaller operation and will take a larger hit proportionate to the total number of Cast Members employed. Disneyland also remains closed as of publish time, and estimates by local health officials have Disneyland remaining closed until summer 2021.

At Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, the theme parks and some hotels have been open since mid-July. Disney World attendance was off to an extremely sluggish start in the opening month or two, but the parks have seen higher attendance numbers of late although Disney CEO Bob Chapek maintains that they’re still operating at a 25% attendance cap.

The 11,000+ Cast Members affected by this announcement will be laid off on December 31, 2020.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek has been in a public back-and-forth with United States Senator Elizabeth Warren over decisions The Walt Disney Company made surrounding the restoration of executive pay to pre-pandemic levels before implementing mass layoffs of Cast Members. While Chapek fired back at Warren saying that her letter was “ill-considered and misleading”, Chapek failed to address the allegations about executive pay.

Among the 11,000+ unionized Cast Members being laid off are more than 700 equity performers. Disney has recently addressed the entertainment layoffs and indefinite closures of their shows.
