EPCOT Monorail Beam Cleaning Mostly Complete at Disney World

Disney has taken advantage of the EPCOT monorail closure downtime to clean the entire length of the monorail beam. Earlier this year it was announced that the EPCOT monorail service would experience downtime for the cleaning before Disney decided the work would take place without any service interruptions.

Now, most of the EPCOT monorail line has been power washed as crews work overnight to complete the work. Disney has not announced when monorail service to EPCOT would resume, but between a reduced workforce and a lack of park hopping, we imagine it won’t return anytime soon.

As far as in-park views, the monorail beam looks better than it has in years. Here’s a look at the work, compared to some older photos before the power washing took place.

Here’s a look back at what the EPCOT monorail beam used to look like before the cleaning.

Back to today, we can see that the line has been cleaned going towards Magic Kingdom, but the return beam hasn’t been cleaned just yet. You should be able to see the difference in the photos below.

Beyond that, the Magic Kingdom loop doesn’t appear to have been touched yet.

Despite an announced reduction in theme park spending into next year, it does look like some beautification projects are taking place as Walt Disney World prepares for its 50th Anniversary in October 2021.

    1. This makes me happy, have been wondering for years if they would ever get to cleaning the beams. They really stand out as an eyesore when they are dirty. I have a hard time with any business that has building of assets that need a good cleaning, have long thought it beneath Disney to let this go this long.
