The City of Anaheim twitter account has put out a PSA of sorts, noting that Orange County could see a regression in color tier as described in the Blueprint for a Safer Economy outlined below. Currently, Orange County California is in the red “Substantial” tier, but could be heading for the purple “Widespread” tier according to the City of Anaheim.
As a reminder, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that a county must be in the yellow “minimal” tier before large theme parks can reopen. With three weeks minimum between tiers and the COVID-19 case count heading back up again into the winter season, many experts are concerned that Disneyland won’t be able to reopen until summer 2021 or later.
Today’s data from the City of Anaheim says that there are 335 new Orange County cases. This is significantly higher than the 7-day average, 7-day lag number of 248.1 cases. We’ll continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation out in California as well as the impact it will have on Disneyland. The tweet urges Californians to abide by social distancing recommendations and take the extremely simple step of wearing a mask.
While the theme parks remain closed, Disney is opening a portion of Disney California Adventure and calling it an extension of Downtown Disney to get some more Cast Members back to work.
That said, there are still major sections of the resort that remain closed, most notably the hotels, which will remain closed indefinitely. Recently, Disneyland announced another round of furloughs as the future of the theme parks remains in limbo.
