A project that hasn’t been officially confirmed by Walt Disney World, but one that is supported by extensive permit documentation is the new entrance coming to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. As we’ve previously documented, the entrance to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will be relocated to be more in line with the front of the resort, and in support of the ongoing World Drive North project.

In July, Walt Disney World announced that construction would continue at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort “through 2026”. It was believed that the work that they are referring to is the entrance relocation project, but again, that project has not yet been officially announced by Disney. Instead, Disney cites “ongoing enhancements” at the resort.

A newly filed permit offers some more insight into the timeframe of the project. While the scope of the work is listed as “general construction”, the manually-entered expiration date for the permit is June 26, 2026. Typically, permits expire one year after they are filed, so anything more than a year starts to raise eyebrows. As with any notice of commencement permit, it’s important to note that the end date of the permit does not represent the opening date of a project or even the full scope of the project.

That said, it does offer some insight into the anticipated timeframe for the scope of work listed in the permit. The contractor for the work is the Gilbane Building Company, and the location listed in the permit is the current main entrance to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. The owner of the permit is Disney’s Facility Asset Management division, which would suggest work that is not necessarily highly-themed in nature.
