Crossbeam Installation Completed at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

It looks like Disney has completed the installation of the crossbeams that will be part of an arrival experience overhaul at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. As a reminder, here’s a look at the concept art released for the project.

One of the biggest changes will greet you right up front – a new porte cochere will showcase the iconic mid-20th century architecture the Polynesian is famous for.

Walt Disney Imagineering and Walt Disney World have crafted a design inspired by colors, patterns and textures found throughout the resort.  This new entry features a high-pitched, open-truss roof covered in a thatch style. There’s also a bold façade that features pops of color complementing the Longhouses found throughout the resort. Along the Monorail station, bold new wooden screens will be covered with geometric patterns in bright, tropical colors that complete an exciting new composition that will greet you when you arrive.

Enhancements will also be made to the lush gardens and fountains that have welcomed guests to the resort since opening day.

The open and airy design of the entryway will feature dramatic lighting elements, including beautiful chandeliers inspired by glass floats, fishing nets and oversized bamboo elements. The new chandeliers will match the existing grand chandelier in the resort lobby, artfully bridging interior and exterior spaces.

Here’s a look at the latest progress!

Work took place from left to right as seen in the angle below. Work appears to be completed on the installation with yellow endcaps. It’s possible that there might be some theming yet to take place.

We’ll continue with a look at the installation from the back of the resort where the pool and boat launch are located.

We’ll continue this post with a look at the work taking place for the arrival experience overhaul. As you can see in the photos below, even more of the theming on the monorail station has been taken down.

The work taking place at The Great Ceremonial House coincides with room renovations meant to infuse some theming elements inspired by Moana. The work is scheduled to be completed in Summer 2021.

    1. I truly hope they’re still refining the placement of the crossbeams as they look so ramshackle as they are in your photos! Still, I’m looking forward to seeing the new entranceway soon!
