You’ve heard of Single Rider, but Walt Disney World is currently utilizing a “Double Rider” queue at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The new queuing option continues the trend of Disney not really being afraid to lean into not only more efficient access for guests but to continue its quest to optimize the efficiency of the ride as well. We made it out to Disney’s Hollywood Studios today to learn more about the “Double Rider” line at Smugglers Run.
Walt Disney World Debuts “Double Rider” Queue at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
Physically, nothing has changed. There is still a Single Rider queue, a Lightning Lane queue, and a standby queue at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Operationally, Cast Members are now informing guests at the attraction’s entrance that “Double Rider” is available in addition to Single Rider.
The “Double Rider” queue operates like you’d imagine. Guests interested in using the “Double Rider” queue join the “Single Rider” queue entrance and simply inform the Cast Member at the merge point that they are traveling as a party of two. While a group of eight could join the “Double Rider” queue, they would be limited to parties of two when merging with the regular line.
Single Riders are still allowed and welcome to join the same queue. In fact, when I rode earlier today, I was a standard single rider, but I observed multiple “Double Riders” using the line, in addition to speaking with Cast Members at the attraction to learn more about the offering.
It’s also worth noting that Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is the only attraction at Walt Disney World right now to embrace a “Double Rider” operation. Don’t expect that you can walk up to the Single Rider queue at Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure as a group of two or more and expect to ride together.
To use “Double Rider”, or Single Rider, head to the attraction entrance and stay to the left side of the entrance. Signage for Single Rider will be present if the option is available. The queue is far less themed than the regular standby queue, but it gets the job done and is never unthemed.
A walk down a hallway eventually leads you to decision time: left or right. Both lead to the same ride experience, but there are different loading areas. Notably, both choices also include the use of two flights of stairs. We’ve included photos of the Single Rider queue below.
As to the “why” of using a “Double Rider” option at Smugglers Run, it’s likely an efficiency play. Smugglers Run needs Single Riders to fill out the 6-seat ride vehicle, and there aren’t always a lot of guests willing to split up their party. Now, a family of four could split up with a parent and kid each to get on Smugglers Run much quicker.
I had zero people in front of me today when I rode in the early afternoon against a 45-minute standby wait.
Now, there are some drawbacks to using the Single Rider line, which could be the reason that it is seldom used. The chances of being assigned a pilot seat are slim to none, and a gunner seat is also usually out of the question. Instead, Single Riders and, now, “Double Riders” will likely be asked to sit in the worst seat in the attraction: Engineer.
Your ride experience is completely up to the other guests, and you are only asked to push buttons when the Falcon experiences damage or in a couple of story moments. You aren’t blasting X-wings out of the sky or piloting one of the most famous fictional spaceships in history, you’re pressing a couple of buttons.
At least you waited zero minutes.
